I’m writing this newsletter the week of Thanksgiving. I hope you all had a happy Thanksgiving Day with family and friends. I spent last weekend sitting in my tree stand that I affectionately call the Iron Maiden. It isn’t named after the rock group but the medieval torture device. I didn’t get a deer, but I sure got a sore back.
Let’s talk about driver safety. Please keep your driveway clear all winter. If a driveway is questionable because of snow and ice, please understand that we may refuse delivery. Keep in mind that if our truck can’t get up a driveway, neither can an ambulance or a fire truck if you have an emergency.
Please remove any obstructions between the tank and the driveway so that our drivers don’t discover a shin cracker buried under the snow. Sheets of tin and plastic under snow can send a driver to the ground regardless of whether he is wearing cleats. Frozen puddles can also be dangerous to our drivers, especially if they get buried under snow. If you’re out there cleaning snow off your driveway, please blaze a path to the tank. It will only take a few minutes, but you’ll earn a friend for life.
If you’re a propane customer, you would have received our annual safety mailing in May or June. Now would be a great time to dig it out and review it.
For your safety, please ensure that the regulators on your buildings remain clear of snow and ice. If you know that the regulator is in a place where snow accumulates, it would be a good idea to get a cover over it. If the vent gets frozen from thawing and freezing snow, the diaphragm inside will not open the valve and you’ll be left without heat. Another thing you should look for is any obstruction in your appliance and heating vents on the outside of your home.
Since you’ll be using your furnace more every day, please make sure your home is equipped with the proper number of carbon monoxide detectors. It’s a state statute in Wisconsin. This requires every floor of a home or apartment to be equipped with a carbon monoxide detector. While you’re at it, the requirement for smoke detectors is the same. Our hardware stores have a large stock of detectors available for purchase if you need more.
Shifting to diesel fuel, now would be a good time to begin looking at diesel contracts for 2025. The values are pretty good compared to last year. For our current customers, Shane will be contacting you. If you’re not doing your diesel fuel business with us, please give us a shot. Check out this article by our Energy Specialist Shane to discover why partnering with Premier for your diesel needs is a smart choice.
I hope you have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Thank you for your business..
